“Regenerative medicine technologies,” exemplified by stem cell technology, represent the “third medical revolution” following pharmacological and surgical treatments. Stem cells have the remarkable ability to differentiate and form any type of tissue within the body, and they can also self-replicate to generate more stem cells. This field has become a key area of focus in cutting-edge international medical research in recent years.

On October 20, 2021, the project “A Prospective, Randomized, Controlled Clinical Study on the Use of Human Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cell Injection for the Treatment of Diabetic Foot Ulcers,” submitted by Dean Jin Peisheng and his team from the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, successfully passed the filing and approval process with the National Health Commission. This marks the first stem-cell therapy research project for diabetic foot to be approved nationwide! Currently, all preparatory work is complete, and the study plans to recruit 60 diabetic foot patients to receive free treatment with umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells.

Each and every one of us gradually develops from a fertilized egg measuring roughly 0.5 millimeters into a complex human body composed of about 60 trillion cells of more than 200 different types. Every day, approximately 150 million red blood cells die, and every minute, 30,000 skin cells perish. For an adult, the skeletal system is completely renewed every 7 to 10 years. All these processes rely on stem cells differentiating into new cells to replenish what’s lost. It can be said that... Our growth and development, as well as our metabolism, can proceed normally only because of the presence of stem cells.
